Safe Harbor
In January, 2007 I had a life changing experience, sailing down the coast of
New Zealand and across the stormy Tasman Sea to Tasmania and Australia.
The skies were incredible and the colors and patterns of the skies on the
endless sea left an indelible image in my mind. The brilliance of the
photographs challenged me to try new techniques, a different palette and
different oil painting products.
After years of staying relatively close to home, fate took a hand and I was privileged to travel to many diverse ports across the globe, from Australia to Maui and up to Alaska, all in the Year 2007. This year I was privileged to join a cruise from Copenhagen and down the Irish Sea to ports in Scotland, Ireland and England. My series of oceanscapes, Sea Change, reflects that experience, drawn from my own photographs or from my impressions.
My new series, Amazing Grace, is based on my photos of our beautiful California coastline. The bright sunlight reflecting on the restless ocean is my interpretation of God's presence and reassurance.
Life is full of interesting challenges and adventures, whatever our age, as long as we continue to look to the horizon for new inspirations.
